My J4105 (fw 1.40) has a strange behaviour at the boot.
The first time I boot after a prolonged poweroff time, the board shutdowns before the beep and just before "Press F2.... etc".
If I press the power button again, everything is fine.
If I reboot from inside the os (Win10-64), everything is fine.
If I shutdown the system, disconnect the power cord for a couple of minutes, connect it again and then power on the board, everything is fine.
But if that pause becomes 10 minutes, the problem appears again.
I suspected a psu related problem, so I tested with another psu, no results.
I made a ClearCMOS, no fix.
It seems as a capacitor need to be charged first, but the board is new and there's no cap with evident signs of failure.
Any idea?

Hi .
I bought a new AsRock 310 and I added the following items, carefully following what reported on the official website regarding compatibility, namely:
https://www.asrock.com/nettop/Intel/DeskMini%20310%20Series/#Support

In my case I purchased:
CPU: 1151 Core i7 i7-9700 (R0) Coffee Lake 3.0GHz 12MB 65W

RAM: Crucial 32GB DDR4 2666 CT32G4SFD8266.16FB2 DS 2 2666

Unfortunately the pc doesn't never turn on. The electrical signal is there, the fans are running, but absolutely nothing appears (not even the bios): completely a black screen.
This by testing all three ports (HDMI, Display port, VGA).
If I remove RAM, I can listen two beeps.

I have also tested the functioning of the processor on another pc and it works.
I have tested the Ram on another pc and it works.

Now I have a doubt.
Looking at the compatibility matrix I see that my processor Core i7 i7-9700 is supported but there is an entry here
https://www.asrock.com/nettop/Intel/DeskMini%20310%20Series/#CPU
which says "SINCE BIOS 4.20".
I ask myself: is it possible that the minipc AsRock 310 doesn't start because it has a lower bios? Wouldn't it give any output, not even bios?
If so, a customer like me who buys the minipc and also the CPU (which is supported) how can use the product? Do I need to further patch the bios? In my opinion, the product should be able to work as it is declared to work. Alternatively, I have to pay someone who must have a lower CPU, extend the bios, and then put my CPU.
Can you help me? In case my AsRock 310 has a lower bios, is it correct that I see absolutely nothing?
Thanks

Just wondering about the status of development of Polychrome SYNC in general. The latest for my motherboard (X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3) is 2.0.66 since May 2020. It needs a lot of work to get on par with some of the stuff I've seen from other RBG control software out there.

I've never been into the Bios to be honest. Also, why wont it let me re-download it after uninstalling it? I figured if I re-downloaded the polychrome rgb, I could turn it off in that. Still love AsRock though. This Board is Beautiful!!

Hi again.

Update - I used another CPU and managed to get the BIOS updated so it boots now. However, the system will not boot if I have ram A2 or B2.
The am is Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200. I can put both sticks in A1 and B1 but it only runs in single channel mode.
All the parts to this system are new. Both sticks of ram are fine, I got Windows installed and tested it and it seems fine.
Suggestions?

I've used a couple of these motherboard in some non-hardcore SFF builds.

A few of my clients have various video editing needs which need a Firewire card - their older peopel with a library of content on camcorders that they want to now shift to proper a digital medium...

Normally I put a IEEE 1394 card in a PCIe slot (on itx boards this will be the GPU) and it works fine (with the Microsoft legacy OHCI drivers you can find around the place) however in these ASrock boards it seem like the slot only support x16 mode, is that true and if so is that something that can ever be addressed via formware or does it need hardware to supprt x8, x4 and x1 cards...

If I'm doing something wrong or there's some magic process can anyone point me in the right direction? I've set the PCIe1 speed to Gen1 but it didnt' help..

I've tried two different cards and none even appear in the hardware list ... there isn't even an unknown device. Otherwise the PCs work just fine.

Both the 1394 card is a x1 pcie card and genwric ones with VIA chipsets.

Regards

Koog

I also found a file in my C drive Program files X86. It's a folder under AsRock Utilities. When you open it up, it shows another folder that says ASRRGBLED. When you open that folder, it shows another folder that says "BIN". How would I go about on getting into the Bios? Why won't it let me download the program again? I just want it bk on since I can control it that way instead of this BIOS thing, cause I have No clue as to what to do in that department!

...and to clarify, the system runs Windows 10 solid at those settings. I gamed the remainder of the weekend with those voltage settings @ 3200MHz. Worked a full day today, including rendering eLearning video. No issues.

Benchmarks are even better now, and inline with expectations for CPU (i7-9700KF) and RAM.

My initial email to ASRock Support - I purchased a B450m Steel Legend motherboard, a new Ryzen 7 3700X CPU with Cooler and new ram to upgrade a gaming computer. We installed all the new hardware per the instructions and found that the Cooler LED lights worked but the fan did not turn. I called AMD last Friday 7/3 and the rep advised that based on the setup we had a BIOS compatibility issue. I asked how can that be, the ASRock box states "AMD Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready"?? The AMD rep advised that unless the B450m could accept a USB BIOS Flashback we would need to use a Boot Kit. AMD could send us a temporary Boot Kit but only if i provide them with "a summary or copy of the communication with ASRock where you explain why the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) is not suitable. Please assist ASAP with the required confirmation. Thanks.

Response from ASRock Support-
Since your motherboard needs bios update ,you have 3 options about it

1st return your motherboard to the vendor and ask for new replacement with bios update

2nd contact AMD and ask for kit to update bios and use with your cpu.

3rd send the motherboard to us (ASRock America) and we do update the BIOS( you pay for shipping to ASRock and ASRock pay for shipping back ) .

Please let us know the option you select .

My response to ASRock Support- Ok, here is my issue. As the customer, I have already purchased your product that claimed to be compatible with the AMD CPU and I paid shipping to your partner vendor.

Solutions 1 & 3 would have me paying additional money just to end up with hardware that works?

1st return your motherboard to the vendor and ask for new replacement with bios update

1. Provantage, your vendor partner insists I pay shipping should I wish to return the item for a refund. Not even sure if they would agree to replace with a BIOS updated motherboard as you describe.

2nd contact AMD and ask for kit to update bios and use with your cpu.

2. As described in my initial email to ASRock, AMD will send a Boot Kit if you confirm that the ASRock motherboard cannot accept the USB BIOS Flashback. If I share your 3 below options the will expect me to select 1 or 3 to avoid cost to them.

3rd send the motherboard to us (ASRock America) and we do update the BIOS( you pay for shipping to ASRock and ASRock pay for shipping back ) .

3. It makes no sense that I should have to pay additional money for shipping to have your product updated to be workable when it is sold to be workable in the first place?

None of the above takes into account my negative experience as customer who had choices and decided in good faith based on the product's specs to purchase an ASRock motherboard.

Should you confirm that ASRock will bear all shipping costs I will gladly send the product back to you for the BIOS update allowing you to do right by me, your customer.

I will await your response which I trust will be in the form of a prepaid shipping label.

Thank you,

ASRock Support- Contact your seller and return it.

My response back - I find it incredible that ASRock "Support" would reply in such a manner.

Ridiculous that ASRock would even try to pass this off as providing "Customer Service" when all I requested and required was confirmation that a USB BIOS Flashback was not possible.

I look forward to showing that I will become your worst customer.

Sincerely,

I updated the BIOS on my ASRock Z270 PRO4 to 2.30 using the Windows utility, and it no longer boots. The power turns on, but the fan seems to repeat ramping up and down.

I tried both the CMOS battery reset and CMOS Jumper as per manual instruction: https://download.asrock.com/Manual/Z270%20Pro4.pdf

There's also no light (num lock, cap lock, etc) on the connected USB keyboard.

Is there any way forward here? or is RMA the only way to go? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately flashing through windows is not the best way to go. Many many boards have been lost this way. Your only hope is to try a deep cmos clear then RMA.

Yeah, now I'll never flash through Windows again...

Is there other ways to deep clear the CMOS other than battery + jumper combo?

The easiest way to find out is to unscrew the cowl cover, remove the fan then
check it's model info on the back. You should then be able to search for a replacement
easily enough.

Otherwise, send off a support ticket to ASRock Tech support and ask them directly:
https://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp

They may even be able to help you procure a new one.

Hello I am having problems to use Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD tuner with J5005-ITX motherboard.
Installation of the drivers of this TV tuner seems to finish, but the card is not starting.
I am in contact with Hauppauge support to investigate the issue, but I would like to know if anybody tried this TV tuner in the past on J5005-ITX.
I believe this TV tuner should work in a motherboard designed for media centers/HTPC.
Thanks for a feedback.

Hi,

Re: ASRock x299 killer sli/ac motherboard

I've enabled both "Intel Virtualization Technology" and "VT-d" in the bios, but Windows 10 still says Virtualization is disabled within Task Manager, and I can't enable Hyper-V to run VMs. (and yes, my Intel CPU supports virtualization)
What is the problem, and how do I fix this?

Thanks for your help.

The Gemini Lake mainboards, e.g. J5005-ITX and J4105-ITX, are vulnerable!

The latest released BIOS version is 1.40 from Oct. 2018.
The TXE version is 4.0.0.1245.
The Gemini Lake mainboards are recent products, vulnerable since more than one year but ASrock doesn't release BIOS version with fixes!

Of course, they have fixes from Intel!
They have newer BIOS versions (e.g. with Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Version: 4.0.20.1311), but they don't release them!

If you contact the support and ask for details and release of new BIOS versions you don't get a specific/detailed answer (or your questions will just be ignored).

This is a tragedy and not acceptable!

P.S.: This official ASRock Forum is also a mess! No secure communication, not following legal requirements and decades behind state of the art.

It's not clear to me what "poweroff time" means. "Soft off" or "Mechanical Off"?

If it's "Mechanical Off" it's the behavior of this board also at me (where I don't know if this is works-as-designed or just a strange behavior; I also don't like it!).

I think it is PSU related if it is about "Soft Off".
It seems the PSU doesn't provide the necessary power to the board when switched off ("Soft Off", state G2/S5, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface#Global_states).
Maybe it provides enough power only for around 10 minutes (e.g. by a filled cap or so).

BTW: My boards are working fine with internal DC/DC boards (like "Pico PSU") and my external AC adapters (Inter-Tech cases with included DC boards).

OK, finally got some 8GB RAM to try out.

Also removed the CMOS battery and set the jumper to clear for over an hour.

Still the same issue is happening.

CPU socket looks good to me.

Seating CPU and locking CPU is not giving issue.

Donned with cooler it all looks correctly installed, but it's not working.

What else can it be?
