Subject: X99 WS-E/10G: Alternative slots for video cards?

Thank you. Yes, it is now about aesthetics but soon it will be about practicality. I am water cooling 2 GTX 980's which are about as fast as a single 1080. In the future I might get 2 1080's and that is the rub. Starting with the 1080's, Nvidia is promoting SLI with two cards only. Yes, I know you can get an unlock key to fix that but I have a feeling the nice-looking bridges will come in 2 adjacent slots only. The new bridges have a higher bandwidth so it will make a real difference.

Yes, I do have the board now. I installed my CPU and memory and then I got to page 30 of the manual and I saw the 4-slot difference. Having a 2-slot difference (7 and 5) with water cooling (or even air cooling as I now have 2 GPUs right next to each other on a different motherboard without any problems for 1.5 years) shouldn't make a difference.
Yes, there is little written about this board so I guess a query to tech support is necessary.
You referenced even number slots being /x8 but I thought all 7 were /x16 because of the Plex chips.
Thank you for your time.
