Yes , you figured out the problem. That is half the battle. Same problem exactly that I had. I had the x99m killer with BIOS 1.90. J Z on this forum said I needed the updated BIOS 3.1 etc. I was lucky. I got a computer whiz, locally , here to program my BIOS. I took it out of the motherboard easily. Brought it to his house and he programed it. Worked perfectly. Unlike the other poster above. I have excellent boot times. 20 seconds all in. Can you find someone who will program your BIOS chip for you?  Otherwise you will have to wait for Tech Support. Unless you an return the board to the store? May be they can help you program it by using a 5XXX CPU on your board? If you do contact tech support, make sure  you request when they will be sending it to you and how long it will take.

Best

Hi Folks,
I was hoping these boards would ship with a newer bios version so I opened the NewEgg box (which renders the board non-returnable) and I got P1.4, which doesn't support my new Broadwell E 6800k proc.
According to the cpu support table, I need P3.1.

Since I don't have a compatible processor on hand to run the board and update the bios properly
I contacted tech support, but haven't gotten a response yet since the holidays.

I guess I need to obtain an updated bios chip and replace it manually from what I've gathered from several searches. I don't see this as a potential obstacle, it just adds more time to wait for it to be mailed and perhaps a separate charge for the service.

Has anyone experienced the same or similar conundrum?
How long was the shipping time and has it worked out for you to replace the chip?
I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks, Patrick

Might be a stupid request... but anyway to have the Good Night LED feature turn off the LED only in a suspended state? When I put my computer to sleep the power LED flashes so brightly that it's hard for me to go to sleep myself.

I wouldn't mind being able to keep the LED on when my PC on active, but off when sleeping as an option with the Good Night LED Feature.

Hello. I have installed an ASRock K8Upgrade - VM800 Motherboard in my case, which is probably newer than the motherboard is.  No problem, I only intend to use this as a LAN Storage device or server, it will run Ubuntu.  Now here is my problem, I have connected most of the wires in the install, except these ones. from my front panel -
1 - 2 wire power on
1 - 2 wire reset switch
1 - 2 wire HDD LED
1 - Positive  single wire Power LED
1 - Negative single wire Power LED

But with these instructions from the PDF, I have no idea where to put any thing.  Every other motherboard PDF I have looked at gave you a clear this wire goes here diagram, whereas the ASRock PDF does not

I beg to differ. In the pics above, the top diagram of pg18, System Panel Header.

This picture and description for the System Panel Header from another ASRock board manual should help you. Yes, they are all the same for every ASRock board, since the System Panel Header connections for the PC Case power, reset, power LED, and HDD LED have not changed for PCs in decades:

Every other mother board connector in the pictures in the manual pages you posted use a single connector with multiple wires/cables that simply plugs into that connector. Some of those connectors are basic and essential (power supply connections), the others are optional, depending upon the other hardware that you may have. Your PSU manual should have instructions about using the connectors it provides, as well as the manuals of all the hardware you may be using in a PC. A mother board is only one of the many components that together make up a PC.

We have all had mother boards made by different manufactures, and I don't recall ever seeing a picture/graphic that somehow shows the wires/cables from every possible device in existence is routed to a connector on a mother board.

Frankly, a cook book type of connection diagram like that teaches us nothing, and does a disservice to the user. I would never want to be that helpless, requiring a wiring diagram to exist in order to connect the various parts used in a PC.

As the description for the System Panel Header states, PC cases may use different connectors, or not include all the connections available on the System Panel Header. For example, your picture did not include the optional power LED connector found on newer ASRock boards, used by some PC case manufactures.

Your post brings up a general point that has bothered me for a while now. That is, for some reason, the mother board manufacture is believed to be responsible for explaining how to connect and configure components used in a PC that are not manufactured or sold by the mother board manufacture. For example, does your PC case have a manual that has pictures showing you where to connect all wires it has? The PC cases I use have a manual like that, which I can download from their website. Have you considered using it? If not, why not?

Connecting and installing an OS on M.2 PCIe SSDs is the latest example of that trend. Why is the manufacture of the M.2 SSD, and/or the source of the OS software, not seen as the first and foremost source of that information? In reality, as least some of the M.2 PCIe SSD manufactures have that information available, even if it is not included with their products. Yet for some reason, the mother board manufacture, whom has nothing to do with the design and manufacture of M.2 PCIe SSDs, is expected to provide that information.

A mother board manual is not meant to be a text book about building a PC. Why would anyone expect it to be?

Newegg only offered to rma the unopened box and the number to call AsRock.
AsRock tech support is closed until January 3rd.
I ordered a pre-programmed bios chip here:

It's a German company and he already shipped it out.
I'll post back when I received it.

Thanks for your input.

I checked the manual, put the RAM sticks in their proper places according to the manual, did a BIOS reset.
Started it up, NOTHING on display, "No Signal". There are no issues with this monitor with my other computer so it's not the monitor. I even tried HDMI hook up to my TV which works fine as well, "No Signal". Whether I try it from the motherboard itself or the video card. Nothing.

""power cable' ? As in singular 24-pin ATX?

If so there is another that must be connected. That would be the 8-pin CPU Power located at the upper left of your motherboard. Overlook that one did we?

Knowing what you've typed here I have to ask again .......

Have you plugged the 8-pin CPU Power located at the upper left of your motherboard?

Missing this will give the exact results you describe. Whether using the iGPU or a dedicated GPU, if the CPU itself isn't being powered there will be no graphics computed to send to the monitor.

Hello Everyone,

I have recently purchased Asrock Fatality Z170 Gaming K6. My previous board was Asrock Z170 Extreme 4. I have been using GSkill TridentZ 3200MHz CL16-18-18-38-2N 2x8GB for a while now. My BIOS version is the latest 7.20. In my Extreme 4, i was been able to run the dual channel kit of mine at either 3466Mhz @16-16-16-36-1N at 1.42v or 3200MHz @15-16-16-36-1N at 1.35v. But now, in my Gaming K6, i cannot even run the modules at the 1N Command Rate, even at the default setting. As changing the CR (Command Rate) does not require any volt tweak, what could be the possible reason behind not being able to set the CR to 1? Is Gaming K6 an inferior motherboard than Extreme 4?

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600k @4.5Ghz Core, 4.5GHz Uncore. Voltage 1.37v (LLC-1)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Motherboard: ASRock Fatality Z170 Gaming K6
RAM: GSkill Trident Z 3200MHz @16-18-18-38-2N
Storage: ZOTAC 480GB Premium Edition SSD
Graphics Card: GIGABYTE R9 390X G1

There are many many reasons that what works on one system will not on another.

Too, changing CR does affect the IMC loading and will usually respond to a slight voltage tweak. Wink

Yet from a CR of 1 to 2 there isn't any noticeable difference unless you spend your computing time as a benchmark geek. Frequency, Frequency, Frequency.

The fans I'm currently using are CM Jetflo 120. I've tried SickleFlow 120 from my old PC and it's the same as well.

I understand that CHA_FAN3 is not adjustable since there is no option in the BIOS, but I can adjust the speed of CHA_FAN2.

I've tried every percent % at all temps, using CPU source and motherboard source, yet the fan on CHA_FAN2 is running at 100%. Currently I can only adjust the speed of CHA_FAN1, quite disappointed.

No I have no utility/tuning programs. Everything is set in BIOS.

Except 2x cold boot with additional loading time everything works fine of course..

After i tried almost everything including clearing cmos with battery removal, changing all possible bios options and trying different hardware(memory, psu+ front panel) and etc and etc...

now i can be 99% sure the problem is motherboard sending voltage to ram too early (when its not enough or too much) which cause second boot with full memory testing (voltage, frequency, timings...) - if you set manually frequency, voltage in uefi it loads fine in hot reset but not cold one..
yes i tried few different memories (and they are compatible with this board on their official site)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

which means board is ignoring "power-good" ("PWR_OK") signal from psu... (i tested with few different psu (even pricey one) - and they all worked fine with more than 5 different motherboards+memory  before)

the question is can you fix it via new bios/uefi (i think even simple additional ~1sec wait before memory POST test should work) and how soon , or its completely hardware problem - and all your apollo lake boards are that faulty???

and yes maybe there is some memory which will work better - but fix should be pretty easy for almost all memory, right???

PS: please send it to your bios/uefi coder... bcs your official support is....
